Tips for Browsing

Browsing is different than search – imagine looking through a filing cabinet drawer with folders from A-Z. The first word(s) you type in the search box determines which point of the index (or place in the drawer) you are selecting.

There are four indexes to choose from:

For author browsing begin with the author's family name e.g. dickens, charles.

For title browsing just enter the first word or words of the title to see the range of works that begin with similar words in their titles.

For classmark browsing just enter the classmark you wish to find e.g. RI (capitalisation is ignored). Browsing by classmark does not find e-Books.
